Since 1999 the AMMA, a non profit organization, has been providing the highest level of education and testing in the acupuncture profession. The AMMA provides training, testing and certification in the field of medical and practical acupuncture.
The American Manual Medicine Association exams are professional exams that have been psychometrically evaluated in an ongoing evaluation process. The AMMA is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA) and adheres to this organization's testing standards. The AMMA has selected as its exam evaluation and testing consultant, Michigan State University with which it maintains an ongoing professional relationship based on assuring the quality of its tests instruments.
The American Manual Medicine Association, through its administrative affiliate the American Medical Massage Association is also a member of the International Association of Continuing Education Training (IACET) and participates in this organizations development of continuing education standards.
The AMMA also supports the educational and certification efforts of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
The AMMA is the first nationally recognized organization to provide competently and appropriately trained allied medical personnel with a scientifically and medically based avenue of certification and professional recognition within the field of acupuncture. The AMMA has taken a well defined position against pseudoscientific and fringe education and certification and has always maintained a strong alliance with biomedicine and evidence based therapeutic procedures.
Over 5000 therapists and physicians have taken AMMA exams since 1999 and received AMMA certification.
Part of the mission of the AMMA is the establishment of testing standards that represent a rational and scientific approach to acupuncture and that set levels of competence and safety.
While the AMMA supports free access to acupuncture care and the unrestricted rights of the diverse community of acupuncturists to enjoy the benefits and rewards of their practice of acupuncture, the AMMA membership is composed of professionals from the fields of medicine, dentistry, chiropractic, naturopathy, naprapathy, allied health care, and manual medicine who support a rational, scientific and evidence based approach to acupuncture.
This approach to acupuncture embraces the principles of holistic medicine while at the same time adhering to the highest standards of medical training, biomedicine, allied health sciences and the rapidly emerging and expanding knowledge derived from contemporary medical research.
